Most recently, Lei Dong served as a professor and vice chair in the department of radiation oncology, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is responsible to manage a large team of medical physicists and state-of-art radiation therapy technologies.




Dong played an important role in the clinical implementation of proton therapy at Scripps Proton Therapy Center, which opened in 2012 and treated the first patient in 2014 using Varian's first pencil beam scanning proton therapy system in the United States. Prior to joining Scripps, Dr. Lei Dong was a professor and deputy chair of MD Anderson Cancer Center in the department of radiation physics. During his 15-year career at MD Anderson, Dong has held a variety of clinical, research and teaching roles. He is considered an internationally renowned expert in image guided radiation therapy.
