Dr. McCann graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, receiving his M.D. degree in 1980. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York and the Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship at Columbia under the direction of Charles S. Neer II, M.D. in 1986.

Dr. McCann is currently Chair, Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York and his practice is limited to shoulder and elbow surgery. He is a Professor of Clinical Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, a member of American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons as well as The American Orthopedic Association. Finally, Dr. McCann is a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and the Editor-in-Chief of The American Journal of Orthopedics.
