About

Dr. Seong Yi is an associate professor of neurosurgery at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea who specializes in spinal surgery. Dr. Yi received his medical degree from the Yonsei University, College of Medicine (1996) before obtaining his master degree and Ph.D. in neuroscience from the Yonsei University, College of Medicine (2008). Dr. Yi completed his neurosurgery residency (2001) and fellowship in spine surgery (2006) at Yonsei University Medical Center. In 2014 he served as a visiting professor with the Department of Neurosurgery at Stanford University where he conducted research in spinal biomechanics and CyberKnife radiosurgery (2014). His clinical interests include cervical artificial disc & device development, Minimally invasive spinal surgery (MIS), Endoscopic spine surgery, MIS lumbar & thoracic fusion, Robotic spinal surgery and spinal cord tumor, as well as brain and spine radiosurgery. Dr. Yi’s research interests include spinal cord injury, transplantation of stem cell, brain and cognitive engineering, neural prosthesis, brain spinal cord-computer interface and spinal biomechanics. Dr. Yi’s past honors include the Korean Neurosurgical Society Best paper award (2006), the Korean spinal neurosurgery society Best research paper (2007). He is currently a member of The Asian-Pacific Cervical Spine Society (APCSS), Society of Minimally invasive spine surgery (SMISS), North American Spine Society (NASS) and the Korean American Spine Society (KASS), the International Society for the Advancement of the Spine Surgery (ISASS).
